Need some advice on the 560. I noticed a buring smell inside the car. Not
good. Anyway, there is a terminal block that sits right in front of the battery
on the firewall. There is a red wire, and one black coming off the right side
of it.. The tow wire comming off this are hotter than a fire cracker! I think
this is the wire that runs to the alt. The car is slow to crank. It will start
with no problem, it just does not sound right. now if you leave it on the
trickle charger over night she sounds real good on crank. Batt was tested and
good. Check with car running and volt meter. Am only get 12.2 thats with Ac,
lights and radio on. Seems to be the Alt is on its was out. Already put a new
volt reg in it last year. Shes probably due being original and some 200K ! HA
But I dont understand why the wires are so hot the melted the termial b
lock
caseing? And Im not driving the car, looks like a fire waiting to happen till i
can figure out whats causing this. here a small pic of what I am talking about
I flipped down the cover. Is completly melted on the back side.
Thanks
Jason

Jason,
Only a guess but I suspect that you might have a voltage drop at this point due
to high resistance: take the wires off the stud, clean stud and terminal
surfaces good, replace the wires securely; good luck.

The 560SEC has stalled/shut down on the road with my wife driving.
Engine just stops. Starts right up and is then ok.
The SEC has about 89K. Replaced the fuel pump relay last April 2008 with
a new unit, installed the back up relay to see if maybe the new relay
was faulty.
On my other SEC when the ezl went out -- it would not start at all until
it was replaced.
Are there any warning signs when the
EZL starts to fail or is it all at
once? Can they be remanufactured? Has any one used Beckmann to rebuild
one? or should a used one be located and kept on hand?
All suggestions are welcome.

I'd try a local hydraulic supply shop if you can find one, at least if
you're trying to flush and fill the system.
Likely a bit cheaper than buying the proper stuff at the auto parts store.

Jim,
I started out with stumbling issues similar to yours. It got progressivly worse
until the car was undriveable.
I have an M119 engine in my car, but the EZL (ignition control module) fulfills
the same functions.
Anyway, my EZL was intermittently cutting off ignition to one of the cylinder
banks.
A new EZL for my engine is $2,800 from MB so I tried an outfit in Florida,
4Mercedes, who claimed to be able to rebuild them for $1,000.
What a disaster.
It took them three weeks to get the EZL back to me and then of course it didn't
work. When the ignition wires were unplugged, the badly glued unit came apart.
I bit the bullet and got the new unit from MB.
Not saying you can't get a good used unit or that the EZL for the M117 can't be
rebuilt, but buyer beware.
Cheers,
Axel

Is there a specific weight of hydraulic fluid to use? I'm ready to flush my
system.
