Jason,
Only a guess but I suspect that you might have a voltage drop at this point due to high resistance: take the wires off the stud, clean stud and terminal surfaces good, replace the wires securely; good luck.

Subject: [W126 Coupe] Wire / Alt problem
Need some advice on the 560. I noticed a buring smell inside the car. Not good. Anyway, there is a terminal block that sits right in front of the battery on the firewall. There is a red wire, and one black coming off the right side of it.. The tow wire comming off this are hotter than a fire cracker! I think this is the wire that runs to the alt. The car is slow to crank. It will start with no problem, it just does not sound right. now if you leave it on the trickle charger over night she sounds real good on crank. Batt was tested and good. Check with car running and volt meter. Am only get 12.2 thats with Ac, lights and radio on. Seems to be the Alt is on its was out. Already put a new volt reg in it last year. Shes probably due being original and some 200K ! HA
But I dont understand why the wires are so hot the melted the termial block caseing? And Im not driving the car, looks like a fire waiting to happen till i can figure out whats causing this. here a small pic of what I am talking about I flipped down the cover. Is completly melted on the back side.
Thanks
Jason
