Hi Gary,
You need to test each vacuum pod (using no more than 10 inches vac
pressure) by disconnecting each of the vacuum lines at the switching
valve and applying MightyVac and pumping to 10 inches. If the pressure
holds, the pod is good; if the pressure is not at all or quickly drops,
the pod has failed.
There is a 2 vac line loop to the air dam door (fresh air-recirculation
flap) up behind passenger glove box. This requires you identify both
vac lines before running the test. One is taped off the other you apply
MightyVac.
In any case, I suspect your pod diaphragms have developed holes/cracks
and need to be either replaced or rebuilt.
By far the least expensive route is to order the repair kits from George
Murphy (maybe $50-60) for a set needed for all the pods. Or you can buy
new pods from Jonathan or MB for what used to be ($70-85) each.
You need two for the recirc/fresh air door - replacing these will make a
HUGE difference in the cooling capability of the car! located up behind
glove box or pass airbag.
one for center/windscreen pod located to just above and the right of
center console and vacuum switching valve
one for leg flap (the age of your vehicle will determine if this is the
square pod or the updated round one) located on the face of the heater
box dead center behind radio
one for air dam located to drivers side of center console
That's it. If you choose to do kit repair, post a note so a few tricks
on 'how-to' can be shared so you don't break the plastic clips and you
don't create holes in the new dual diaphragm rubber seals.
Regards,
Dick
