I assume you are referring to the sliding sunroof panel itself and not the
headliner and roof pan et al. If this is the case, I'd remove the panel
(4-5) press fit clips at the front of the panel pried loose using a stiff
putty knife or spatula with roof open 1/3 of the way then it comes out from
above the roof. This panel is independent of the metal hatch. I believe I
opened the metal roof a tad more when I freed up the clips and wanted to
rempove the panel. I did the last job for Mike Ramay when he needed spares
for his frankenbenz a while back.
I use the 3M spray adhesives on both the later model vinyl and the early
model cloth. Just be careful if it's cloth as too much will show a bleed
through mark or two. The covering on the sunroof panel can be pulle dback
and then made taught once the adhesive is sprayed evenly to the backer board
and fabric.
