[W126 Coupe] Strike one up for the SEC

I showed taillights a few years back to a very annoyed 2002 CL500 owner in my 560SEC 6.0 SOHC. He was NOT happy when we were sitting next to each other at a traffic light afterwards.

He'd paced me to 100, then swung into left lane to pass me and I kept him there up to 145 or so...we'd slow down, he'd try again, and no dice. He could not get past me.

That pales in comparison to my old 440WHP 1995 Audi S6 Avant (station wagon) with AWD. Talk about a sleeper......dark green, a wagon no less, and would bury any and all cars that attempted to run me, from traffic lights through roll-ons starting at 100. What fun that was. Turned 2:21's consistently at the Watkins Glen long course as well on track days, then I'd throw the R-DOT tires in the hatch and drive home.

Oh well. :)

Now, my question is, how can I expect my 91 to behave? <ggg>

There is room on LI!! You can (or at least could in the 90's) run the 135 @ AM looking for stuff to run.. The Robert Moses etc, etc.. My biggest gripe up there is the roads aren't exactly what one would call smooth;-)

Those Honda V 4's were great engines..I'm looking @ the Gen III/IV VFR's, i.e the last of the gear driven cam engines, once gas hits 4$ a gallon..

I'm located in Brookhaven and the shop is in Lilburn. Brookhaven in inside the Perimeter on the NE corner, while lilburn is outside by about 15 miles. Run a bulk of the miles on 85 which late at night affords itself to high speed runs.
This particular run was around 2 AM, mid week..Worked late and shortly after merging onto 85 I noted a pair of Xenon's coming up quickly in the HOV lane. Waited for them to pass and it was a new cheap..I mean C class cruising about 110. I paced them in the lane next to theirs and sat about 2 car lengths off their bumper. They picked up the pace and I matched.... I knew they were limited to 130 so once we made it there I 'walked' up next to them, sat there for about 5-10 seconds and let her go the rest of the way..:) Would have liked to have heard their comments on the old 126 leaving them flat.

I vibrated for a good hour after that, but was utterly astounded how planted/solid the AMG felt..the Aero, suspension etc Really works well up there!

Cheers - 160!?!. Whoa. that is more than I've ever seen. Maybe with enough straight road, but LI is limited with that. My sister is in Atlanta, and my parents in Helen. Where are you compared to that? The max I can attest to is 140 on my Honda Magna V65 - '83 - an original (but if you ask my wife I'll deny it)..:) The funny thing is I won't leave my drive-way without the seat-belt on, but on the bike it is a free-for all. go figure..:)

Nice....;-)

I don't find many who are willing to run stop light to stop light around Atlanta...Most of my trails are on the highway in the 70-140 range, and one stint up to gearing limited 160 in the AMG... Either way, you never forget a race and the buzz it leaves makes the whole week worth smiling over:)

Sound like you had some fun there Alex.

I hope it satisfied your juvenile cravings for a good red light race.

Hey All,

Figured I'd share a winning moment for the Old Dog.

Friday I'm driving home from work minding my own business. Stop at a light and a ~2005 Mustang convertible stops in the next lane. The first 10 years of my driving career I had 3 Mustangs ranging from a Turbo 2.3L to a red 5 speed 5.0L LX - I loved those cars. Only when the kids came along did I trade in the LX for the SEC.

So I admired the car although I pittied the vast amounts of plastic (rear wing, ground effects, etc) that this punk ruined the car with. The loud exhaust signaled no evidence of power adders. I guess my stare was received as a challenge by the driver of the pathetically over-dressed Mustang. He revved his engine and I dropped mine into 2nd (I guess you'd call it first, but it's not the "B" position). The light turned green and he got a jump on me - ~ 2 car lengths. Once I hit 3500 RPM the supercharger kicked in, I pulled up along side & when shifted into 3rd I started pulling away. By the time I passed 100 I had ~ 6+ car lengths on him. Poor bastard.

So the next light he stopped ~ 20 feet back. I knew he thought he would get a run on me. Time for "B" position! I saw his nose come up just as the light turned. I punched it - tires broke just a little traction, but I have to say, the SEC with the independent rear has so much more traction than the Mustang. I launched and the Mustang, even with a head-start, barely got even with me. Once I hit 2nd - now at full boost - (chirping the tires with a stock tranny is impressive) I pulled away and left him behind like a bad habit. I think he gave up at ~ 70 cause he dropped back so fast. At the next light he made a right (I'm sure to go home and cry about a 19 year old MB that put him to shame).

Figured you all might find this as amusing as I did. I had offered to share the super charge plans, but I need someone to host the files - pictures and drawings of parts. Really, besides trying to regain my youth by these immature actions - it is a rush & gives the SEC the respect it deserves - even among the 21 century cars! I'm happy to share the plans, but really just want to post the info - I have too many things going on to send info to individuals. Let me know who can post the info for all to see.

Thanks All.
