Everyone:

At the risk of appearing to support racing on our hallowed public
thoroughfares, I share this anecdote which also involved a Mustang...

I was driving my '94 E500 from Phoenix back to Houston across the west
Texas desert. I spent Saturday night in the town of Marfa and drove north early
the next morning to intersect I-10 at Ft. Stockton. As I was entering the
eastbound on-ramp I noticed headlights in my rear mirror but since the sun was
just coming up and there was no other traffic, I decided to enter the freeway
in front of the other car. I put the accelerator to the floor and the car
literally leapt from 60 to 120 mph as I exited the frontage road and entered the
ramp. Looking at my rear view mirror again before I moved left to the fast
lane I saw that the headlights belonged to a late model Mustang GT that was
hanging off my left rear corner. We were both accelerating and it seemed
obvious the other driver was making a race out of my totally innocent attempts to
reach cruising speed. At about 145mph the Mustang looked as if it were
attached to a rubber band that had reached the stretch limit and heading into the
rising sun my mirror I could watch the Mustang headlights quickly recede into
the darkness. I decided that driver was now sadder but possibly wiser.

The car is Black Pearl and is completely stock. I call it the Granny Car
because it looks for all the world like the other thousands of 300Es on the road
except for the bulging fenders, the "squat" and the tires.
