Barry,
you can buy new odometer gears (but not from Mercedes Benz :( from 'Odometer Gears' http://www.odometergears.com/
My bill (January 2005) is as follows:-
12 tooth drive gear $25
48x12 tooth gears for VDO $25
Shipping to Aus $4
Total of $54

You have to find the bad gear/s, measure the diameter and count the teeth. It is relatively simple - the measurement only has to be to the nearest mm as the gears come in set sizes anyway and if you count an odd number of teeth chances are you miscounted.

I have two spare speedometers here so if you measure up your bad gear I may have a spare that will fit.

The Mercedes page http://www.odometergears.com/mercedes.html

Price is still twenty five bucks but the American dollar is now about on par with monopoly money so it won't cost much in Aussy dollars.

Kind Regards

Hi all,
Having problems obtaining replacement gears for the commonly faulty 'mushy' gear problems with the odometer. I seem to be getting the run around trying to get them in Brisbane Australia and are prepared to get them from anywhere as they are rather small and should be inexpensive. Possibly available from hobby supplies...haven't tried yet. I really only need the primary gear (12 tooth 2mm) at this stage, but I thought a kit was available? Mercedes Benz of Brisbane advised me that a complete cluster for AU$1500.00 was the only option!!
Please help someone!?
