Hi Kelly,
Try the following re:high idle. OVP relay, temp sensors and throttle
plate position after you swap the air idle valve. Clean the new idle
air valve so you can clearly here the valve (solenoid) moving up and
down with the temporary application of 12vdc to the two pins where the
harness plugs in. I just went through the entire process with Markus
Meyer and he finally sorted this out by checking the temp sensor and
harness. But, it can be many things and is best resolved using the 07.3
section of cd manual trouble shooting flow chart if the above fail to
resolve the high idle.
Horns are positioned in two locations. The fanfare (low tone) are under
your headlamp housing to the driver's side (at least this is true on my
euro with left side steering). The highway horns are right up front on
the brace in front of the ac condenser. Just lift the hood to locate.
Remove harness and apply 12vdc to see if they fire up as I suspect they
will. Then check the fuse (replace the entire box if they are all over
10 years old) then follow with the switch to see that the harness is
fully seated. If still no go on the highway horns, run an ohm meter
across the switch to confirm it's good. That will leave you with a
break in the wiring harness if the switch proves good.
Oil level switch is on the oil pan to driver's side. It's probably in
need of replacement or the harness is suspect. When replacing be sure
to get both the sender plug and sender to pan seals.
Headlight right. Check the connector to the headlamp itself with 12vdc
if no go, take a volt meter to the headlamp harness and check for 12vdc
with lamp switch on. If this fails, inspect the harness and fuse.
Sender could be corroded. It's atop the fuel tank and accessed behind
rear driver's seat cut-out. Need a big spanner wrench to remove. It
can be cleaned if you are really careful. The nickel chrome leads need
to be lightly sanded or just replace the sender and tank seal.
Good luck.
Dick
