Yes, coming in here too late...... it is a 12mm "triple square" (some suppliers call it a "double hex") and is available from Snap-On. Much cheaper if you can borrow it!

Thanks. Its a 12mm, borrowed it from my mechanic. Turns out a 12mm allen isn't the same size as a 12mm triple square!

Got it loose, now to take off the axles, which turns out are the same bolts!

You can look here and this will show you bolts and tool.

It's not a Torx...it's more of a triple square. Matco/snap on/Mac etc would have it.. Maybe Napa..JonathanMarkus Meyer wrote:

I did run to Sears as I wrote, but they didn't have anything like it. Unless I'm mistaken, I thought Torx heads were a star with 6 points, not 12 points? If you took a 9 or 10mm 12pt socket and looked at it, that's what the hole in this bolt looks like. Unless there are also 12pt Torx bits? But still, I don't want to buy a bunch of Torx bits just to figure out what size this sucker is...

Sounds like a Torx head to me. You can find them at Sears or any tool store.

I'm trying to remove the diff from one of my 126 parts cars (88 SEC). The two front bolts are allen bolts and I got them out. But the larger rear one is a star shaped bolt - any idea the exact size (I think its around a 9mm?) and where the heck I can get the bit/tool that fits in there? I ran to Sears just as it was closing last night when I realized I needed a special part (I was afraid of using an allen key and rounding it out) but they didn't have any star shaped bits (its not the socket bit I need - its not a bolt head, its a hole which is star shaped). Thanks,
