Hello:
The a/c sytem is functioning fine on my 89 sec except the vent temp. isn't
what it should be (cool air but not cold). I want to have the sys. checked for
leaks/functionality and recharged with R12 but all but one shop says that I
have very little choice but to convert to 134 because they say they either
can't get the R12 or say it is $100.00 per lb. plus labor to install making it
too expensive to maintain a R12 sys.I don't want to convert to 134 for the
reasons mentioned on this site but I feel compelled to. Will someone enlighten
me on the general availability of R12 to Repair shops and does the $100.00
price tag seem reasonable? I think it should be more like $45.oo/lb..I live 30
miles from Charlotte N. C. Also, what is R12A and is it an acceptable
substitute for R12 and can the two be mixed in the system.? If I am stuck
converting what parts are a must change and what parts are recommended assuming they
are all now functioning normal.Your valued inputs are appreciated.
By the way the system was evacuated, new o ring kit installed and recharged
with R12 in 2004(service record). The car has 80k miles but has been garaged
for the last 4 years.I purchased the car last year.
