[W126 Coupe] Traveling advice

Guys,

I need some help from those who travel thru St. Louis - traveling East to West.
I'll be traveling on I-64 West and connecting with I-70 West.
I have traveled this before and there always seems to be a bottle neck on the west side of the river where I -55/70 goes down to a single lane to merge onto I-70.
Is there a better route to take? 
Maybe I-255 North to I-270 West to I -70 West????
Also I need a car transported (open is fine) from Knoxville, TN to Loveland, CO - any ideas on a reputable carrier?
I prefer a 2-3 car hauler as opposed to a large transport carrier (10-12 vehicles) and one that will not unload and reload at other points.
