Indeed Ronny, that was my point. Although pinstriping started here I have only seen one SEC with pinstriping. In fact the car also had chrome fender covers and gold plated badging and blacked out windows. When we obtained our '94 E320, the dealer had already put pinstriping on the brand new car.? I took it to my painter and had it removed for $200. He used a buffer and carefully removed it. Personally I do not like pinstriping unless it is a real hot rod or a '65 Pontiac GTO which I believe came from the factory that way.

Funny. I live in SoCal and I see
on a regular basis sec's, but never one with pin striping. In my home town
Glendora alone are 5 sec in good shape.

I believe pinstriping is a total SoCal phenom started by the likes of
Dean Jeffries and Von Dutch. The reality was that you had no money left to
paint your hot rod after all the modifications were done so you left it in
primer. To make it "cool" you pinstriped your car. The dealers try to "add"
everything they could get away with and add to what they are already making.
Pinstriping was and is not that popular outside of the USA so it was never
offered by the foreign manufacturers except when it was part of the graphics
incorporated from new. On some cars pinstriping makes it look good. I
always ask myself before I invest "does it make it look better? Or does it
make it go faster". We all have different tastes but enjoy the love for the
same great SEC.

I
have a 1989 SEC, black (040) over parchment leather. My car has gold
pinstripes that were applied by an aftermarket pinstriper of national
acclaim..?
?
You can see some photos of the striping

?
I
think it looks fine. I would never (personally) have pinstriping applied to
one of my cars, but I have never minded the fact that my SEC has it, and it
was not a "make or break" factor in purchasing my car as it was done very
nicely.?
?
Cheers,?
Gerry?
