I would definitely agree on the W124 wagon... Love that car!
My second pick would be the Subaru Outback AWD... Aesthetically not bad but excellent utility car...
I currently drive a 96 Jeep Cherokee Sport 4X4 in the winter which I like very much too. Great reliable in-line 6 motor and much improved comfort with a couple of Recaro leather seats. The stock seats are trash.

Why not a W124 wagon?  W/ a proper set of snow tyres they'll go just
about anywhere..and in 4 matic they Will go Anywhere!
