Hi Rick,
You've got two fuses, #3 and #7. I'd check fuse 3 where it's 30 amps
and you say you get a lighted switch which indicates fuse 3 is okay. If
that does not solve the problem, check the defrost wiring connector at
the rear window for the presence of 12vdc with a volt meter when the
defog switch is lit to confirm that in fact the new relay is closing as
it should. If that checks out, then you know + power and the ground are
good. If it does not it's either a bad relay or a bad ground in the
trunk. I'd say the last thing to check is to run an ohm meter across
the window defog connector absent the harness to the relay and see if
you get a closed loop as you should on the heating element in the new
rear glass windscreen.
The above presumes you have an 86-91 and I pulled the circuit diagram
from the mb service cd to provide the above test sequence.
