I think you are right.
I also have noticed Europeans drivers are more active behind the wheel (due to the local laws) and Americans are more passive drivers and busy with a lot of other things beside driving their car.

I question the wisdom of messing with local conventions. In N. America, drivers don't recognize the rear "fog" lamp. People driving behind you on the freeway will think you're one of those ignorant dinks who drive with their left foot resting on the brake pedal, (and one of your brake lights is burnt out), or your car has serious wiring problems. It would tend to make other drivers nervous, which really doesn't contribute to safe motoring.

Furthermore, nobody has commented yet on the fact that many European countries have fairly strict laws as to when you are allowed to use your fog lamps, and fine drivers for abuse.

Nobody needs any more confusion on the roads, so just forget it. In any event, re-designing your car's lighting/marker system may well be illegal in your State.
