When you're ready, I have a really nice 1989 560 SEC I will be selling soon. Smoke Silver, burgundy interior, 99,098 miles, all stock, down to the Becker radio, which works fine. I'm in New Jersey, which isn't too far from Virginia.

Let me know.

Dear All,
I really appreciate your reply and the time you spent trying to help.

I guess -after reading all your feedbacks- it doesn't worth to ship my car and it is better to sell it and buy one when I get there.

Dear Firas,
I have some experience in importing cars although I am in California. To make a long story short, it just isn't worth it for an individual to engage in the effort that is required. The time it takes and the money could cost up tp the value of your car. Unless you are importing a rare car and have the time and money and patience I would sell your car in Kuwait and buy an already registered and licensed car here. After you have done all the work and got your car inspected, both agencies (separate from each other) take their sweet time to give you an approval. During this time, your request sits on some bozo's desk and any amount of trying to contact that person delays the approval. They only like it when they call you to ask questions. If you try to push them, they shove your file into the bottom of the pile. Good Luck.

But you can read all about it here:

Dear Bruce,
Appreciate your reply. I'm going to stay in US for five years, so I belive It has to be converted.

Where can I get the convertion requirement list?

Your feedback will be highly appreciated.

bringing the car into the US legally requires either an exemption allowed by the US laws (diplomat, non-resident staying 6 months or less, show use only, car of importance, etc).

If you want to title it and drive it here on a more permanent basis, the car must be brought in to the USA by a registered importer and converted to US laws, which is a $4K+ undertaking.

As Jim mentions, there are "creative" ways of getting it into the USA, but you won't be able to register or title it. And if you have an accident, you will have huge liability issues.

Bruce Mendel will likely chime in to help you with this information. If you have any diplomatic connections you might be able to bypass some of our out of date but expensive DOT requirements. You might even be able to ship to Canada and drive it here. There are creative ways around it but others know more about it and will help. Jim Alexander

Dear Friends,
I own a 560SEC Euro version and I'm planning to ship it to US Virginia.
I wonder what modifications I need to do (as per Virginia rules) prior to shipment.

Your feedback will be highly appreciated.
