[W126 Coupe] question for everyone

i would like to buy an old 380 sec and converted, so to speak, "american".  i.e. the engine, tranny, rear end.   possibly a gm crate engine ie. 300 to 400 horsepower.   has anyone seen this done. and am i just dreaming here?   i wondering what is all involved in this type of conversion.  your opinions greatly appreciated.
