Hello,
I'm am bit new here, and my name is Dustin. I noticed you were talking about a SEC meet, then TX came up and I thought I'd chime in. I would be interested in attending. I live in Houston. All though it would be very convenient for me to attend one around here, I wouldn't want everyone to have to drive to the asz end of the US for a meet, besides there is nothing to do here. On the other hand KC, Oklahoma city and even Dallas are technically the cross roads of America. I mean every major city is built somewhere near a body of water, river or ocean, while these cities were built strictly out of necessity for a junction point. I also wanted to suggest Destin/Ft.Walton area. If not the next meet, perhaps sometimes in the future. It is somewhat centrally located, unfortunately not good for the west coast people. If you go in the fall or spring the rental rates on nice waterfront condos are very reasonable, There are more things to do down there in a 1/2 mile by 20 mile strip
then all of greater Houston as far as I'm concerned. You could make a full week vacation of it and bring the whole family down for a beach vacation. I may have a hard time talking my wife to stuffing the kids in the back and leave the bulky crap back at home when we have a perfectly good 07 Odyssey minivan in the garage, but I'll get her to crack.
Talk about the photo opportunities, having all the SECs lined up with the bleached white sand and teal colored gulf in the background; it would almost look like we photochoped Cancun in the background.
As well, I'm a big fan of most of the microbrews. My favorite are the Dogfish head brews. I also really like the 1554 Black ale that the Fat Tire makers New Belgium co. brews. West Coast's North Coast Old Rasputin's Russian Imperial Stout is also great at 9% ABV.
BTW I'm driving a stock black and tan 82' 380SEC, 70,000 miles, bought new by my grandma when I was 9 years old and given to me several years back as she stopped driving. It maybe not as nice as some of your larger engine later model upgraded SECs, but she still shines when she is clean, even with the 25 year old paint job that has the patina finish checking of a vintage les paul.

Alex,
where I live you can get wheels restored - they do a great job. You
might have a better outcome with four fully restored wheels than one
perfect and three warn wheels.
The cost to Seers should be about the same or a little less. I paid
about $400AUS to get mine done - they dismantled the two piece AMG
wheels, machined the rims (where the curb had been slapped by previous
owner - managed to scratch all four wheels), renickled the outer part of
the rim and repainted the inner part.
Worth considering this option if suitable replacement wheel can not be
found.
Robert
Well I knew it was going to happen sooner or later:
I bragged ~ 3 months ago how I got a set of four Genuine 17" AMG rims
for a steal on Ebay. Other than a few very minute scratches on two of
them, look virtually like new. I added a set of 12mm spacers to get the
right offset and I was happy as a pig in ____ to get rid of my old,
pitted original rims. The rims even came with mounted tires, but I knew
I had to replace them. So finally this week-end I went to Sears. I
argued for 15 minutes the "technician" who informed me he is the
premiere expert and will not touch a car with modified hubs with
spacers. They would however put on new tires if I bring in the wheels
alone. So I said OK, you win, went home took them off and brought them
back. Before I let the "technician" take them out of my car I told him -
"these rims are $500/pc from MB. Be careful, lay them down on the back
side only & do not stack them, as the aluminum face protrudes the tire
on the front and will easily get scratched." I'm sure he heard "bla,
bla, bla..."
So he took the first over to his work bench, and before I could get
another word out he drops it on the tire, and it falls flat on the
concrete floor on the outer face. I cold not believe my eyes. He could
not have found a rougher patch of floor to drop it on, and the rim is
cosmetically beyond repair - scratched and pitted beyond belief!!! To
make a long story short, and not relive my aggravation, after 30 minutes
of discussions I got it in writing that Sears will buy me a new rim.
So now it's my problem to find a replacement. I do not know what car
they came off of, but I did find the source below. The question is they
come in "Silver", or "Brilliant Silver". Other than going to my not so
local MB dealer, does anyone know how to tell which is which? They look
silver to me, but what constitutes brilliant??? (certainly not me).
BTW: I put on a set of Goodyear 225, 50s. The outside diameter of this
set-up matches the original perfect and the speedometer is right on the
money with the GPS. Between that and the loose upper control arm bushing
fix, the 89' rides like a dream now. Not hint of any vibration anywhere,
at any speed. Love it. Did not think an 18 year old car could drive this
nice & I get lots of compliments on the new look. Any help on the ID of
the finish is appreciated.
AND BTW(2): I posted the some of the plans for the supercharger project
a few weeks ago, but I don't think it ever made it to the mail-list,
probably due to the attachments. What do I have to do to post this? Last
time Axel posted this on his Web site - Axel are you out there?
Here is where I found the replacement.

.hmmessage P { margin:0px; padding:0px } body.hmmessage { FONT-SIZE: 10pt; FONT-FAMILY:Tahoma } To expand a little on Markus' post:
KC is about as close to middle America as you can get. I'll campaign more on what to do while in KC later. I'm not opposed to Omaha or Oklahoma City either. Not sure what we would do there but I'm sure there is something. I personally would make the trip to Denver or Indianapolis, but the further away from the middle of country, the less participation there will be. We had 16 SEC's and 1 SEL in KC five years ago. That is the most I've seen in one place since I've been around. Last year in Detroit we had maybe six or seven SECs, I don't remember. It was a great time but I didn't expect to see West Coast or any FL guys there.
Also, adding MBCA will complicate things a bit. At least in my area. We,(SEC'er), are not well thought of around here because of all the modifications that have been made to our cars. The locals are purist for the most part. They get together for a short drive and then eat dinner somewhere. I don't know what Satish put together last year but man there were some nice cars there. It was a life time opportunity for me. Almost a little out of Markus' and my league. Ok, our two cars together couldn't buy a brake job for a few of the rides, but that is another story. So putting together another group with ours is ok, but not MBCA here in KC. I just don't see it working. BTW: they were invited five years ago and were a no show for our photo shoot.
So let's keep the discussion going.
It's getting late and my Boulevard Pale Ale, the best beer in the country, is making me sleepy.
Regards,
Brent

Andy,
I agree on the TX, NM and especially S CO.
I have done many cross country tours and trying to find an ideal spot is challenging. Hot weather makes it even more interesting.
Last year in June I drove my 65 Sportwagon ( 5 years to build) in the Hot Rod Power Tour for 4,500 miles covering 15 states in the high 90-100 temps with pouring rain and had a ball!!
Depending on the date you can count me in for the meet.

Mike it seems that there are only two of us sofar that would like this meeting to go ahead. I say the two of us as there has been no definitive imput from anyone else. The last time we had a West Coast meet in Vegas it was great. East Coasters and Northerners may consider having a mini-meet and then caravanning or rallying down here.

Subject: [W126 Coupe] Collection must be sold
I have, sadly, received this from a friend. Perhaps someone here is
interested. You may reach Mark directly at :

Hello from Florida,
I am here helping some friends cope with the death grip of cancer. My
long-time car buddy, Chuck Fischer, has but weeks to go before cancer
takes its deadly toll.
Chuck was a Mercedes guy for years, collecting 4 or 5 of the
drive-around kind and many more of the display-case variety. I am
trying to get his extensive model collection inventoried and packed up.
I think there are about 300-400 models. Most are race cars. Many,
maybe half, are DTM touring cars. There are a lot of Indy cars and a
lot of McLaren F1 cars. Most are 1:43 scale but they range from 1:87 to
1:18th. Most are in their original boxes. There are also about 30
unbuilt kits, all scales and descriptions. There are several
transporters (haulers to the Nascar fans) as well.
He also has about every book about Mercedes ever written, including
some coffee-table ones, in German and English, that need to be lifted
with a crane. Sales brochures, MB club monthlies, service manuals, etc,
etc. etc.
All kinds of stuff! So..... does anybody know a collector that can
help us out?
It would be great if one person wanted the full magilla but parting it
out is OK too.
I have no idea what its worth but each one of the 73 DTM cars in the
Paul's Model Art series probably sold for $125 new 10-15 years ago.
There is a receipt for a glass enclosed F-1 car for $250.
This collection took years to build, I hope I can find it a new home.
Please e-mail me if you know of somebody that might want to
expand their collection.
Mark
