Mike K.
Sounds like my task has been mirrored "down under". How much fun will that be! Trade you rides!

There is an adjustable pressure regulator that is for power steering. If you need one, I can contact a friend of mine and find out what brand he's using.

I have a Walbro pump I'm going to use on the SEC, along with an Aeromotive pressure regulator. They will have some that will work for the E55.

I'm planning on using some 265x18" tires on the back, maybe some 275's but not much larger. I'm hoping to save the LSD and axles by using some slightly smaller tires.

I have a small tranny cooling radiator and one oil cooling radiator to tuck in the nose somewhere.

Let me know if you need something from here.

Later,
Mike R

Hi Mike R,

Like you I seem to have a never ending list of challenges to overcome fitting the W211 E55 AMG motor and trans into my ‘89SEC.

I’m still hoping to use the E55 gear shifter and accelerator pedal as they only require wiring.

My E55 motor is complete with all its accessories, so aircon compressor and power steering pump will upgraded. There is quite a big steering pump pressure difference [increase] that I’ll have to deal with somehow.

The fuel pumps go the other way with the 560 being too high.

My E55 5 speed trans is quite a bit shorter than the 560 4 speed and I’ve designed a coupling that will make up the difference as well as convert the AMG 4 bolt doughnut to the 3 bolt 560 tail shaft.

I’m at the stage of finishing the body work and suspension. Just a few weeks to go, I hope, then start the motor/trans swap.

I’m using 285/40/17 Kumho rear tyres , so I hope they will be able to tame the 469hp.

Like you, I’ve removed the SLS and fitted H&R springs at about 40mm lower [looks fantastic]. I had KYB Gas Adjust shocks but they are too soft and following Jonathan’s advice, I now have some Bilstein HD for the rear.

I’m not sure how the cruise control will end up. None of the 560 stuff I suspect and electronic from the MoTeC ECU.

I’m planning on keeping the 560 oil cooler and steering cooler but I have to fit in an intercooler radiator somewhere.

Moving the 560 oil cooler to the same position but on the left and fitting the intercooler in the right side will match the E55 plumbing better.

I’ve been planning and buying bits for about 3 years and it’s exciting to eventually be starting to do stuff.

Anyway, it’s all stuff to work on at night when sleep won’t come!

It's a race I'll likely lose. All I have to do is:

1.. design and install a transmission shift linkage
2.. design and install an accelerator pedal with cable
3.. design and install a transmission mount
4.. Move the battery to the trunk, do the wiring
5.. Mount the PCM in place of the battery
6.. Remove all Benz engine wiring
7.. Wire up the engine with the new wiring harness
8.. Install the new fuel pump, plumb it, get a fuel pressure regulator and install it and plumb it to the engine
9.. Install the cruise control amplifier, hook it up electrically and mechanically
10.. Get the new driveshaft made and installed
11.. Install the alternator and AC compressor (stock or custom location, depending on fit), wire/plumb them
12.. Install the SEC radiator, plumb it
13.. Install the GM power steering pump, plumb it
14.. Mount the new transmission cooler and plumb it
15.. Mount the new oil cooler and plumb it
16.. install the new Lorinser air dam on the front skin, paint it
17.. install the new rocker panel pieces, paint them
18.. remove the SLS hardware in the back, install the new non-SLS H&R springs and new Bilstein shocks
19.. buy some new rims and tires capable of 185 mph
20.. get an alignment

There's a dozen more tasks that will need to be done, but I've depressed myself enough with this list.
