Dick Spellman <dick.spellman at gmail.com> wrote: Clay, For now ignore the instrument vacuum gauge. You are describing a hard start on a hot engine. Where you have to depress the pedal to open the throttle plate suggests you have a fuel leak and the engine is simply flooded.

So, look for the fuel leak. You need a set of gauges hooked up to the fuel distributor, a heavy jumper wire for fuel pump relay terminals and 30 minutes to test the resting state after fuel pressure on the system is established on the gauges. Go get a cup of coffee and when you return look at the resting pressure...if you see the pressure has drop (as I suspect you will) you will need to check each of the following.

injectors for leaks, cold start injector for leak, control piston seal for leak, accumulator weakness.

The one test you can do right away without gauges is the control piston seal.

That's it. No short cuts, just jhave to go through the tests and then you will know what needs fixing.

Gauges are $80 from Star Products in NY...I've written about them several times on this list.

Good luck,
Dick

Hi Guys, when car is idling the economy gauge is on full left and when I put it in gear with brake on it's an 1/8 to 1/4 above the bottom. Adjustments off, too rich or too lean. If I start first time in am in garage it starts instantly, and if you try it again, and again the same. But if you leave it for 5 minutes you have to almost floor it to get in started. And I still haven't found the drain.
