Hi John,

 

I have a 2001 A8L and it's the smoothest engine gearbox package I've ever
driven. 2001, so it's still 5 speed, not 6 as with the current [from 2004 I
think].

I'm not familiar with the Benz 4matic at all, so I can't comment there.

The A8 internals and finish are excellent and although only 310hp from a 4.2
V8, the performance is very surprising.

5 valves per cylinder with variable valve timing and variable inlet help I
guess.

 

I'd still like to try an E55 4Matic!.

Hi Guys,

     How are the new S Class sedans with the 4matic all wheel drive systems.
I know the last generation S Class sedans had poor durability with the all
wheel drive setup.  Would I be better off just buying an A8?  Any thoughts
from the forum would be most welcome.  I also happen to love the GL SUV with
the diesel engine.   I would love to hear thoughts on both.
