Overheating could be a possibility.
There was an indication of water leaking into the valley area and
some pretty rusty areas in there. You can see evidence of that on
some of the pics on my blog pages.
My guy thought the lack of seal or warping might have been the result
of previous head work or may have even been there right from the start.
However, my intuition says that with an engine like this, the factory
would have never let that through.
Could also be that the guy who did the heads got it out of whack.
They had to do some welding, so perhaps the heat caused the metal to
warp.
What also seems odd is that the rough idle comes and goes quite
sporadically.
Seems more noticeable / worse after getting back into the car after
it has cooled down from driving.
No problem to take the manifold off and give it a test for
straightness as suggested. We've had it on and off plenty lately.
