It is also worth remembering that the suspension on this 20-year-old car
was not designed in the days of super low profile tires. Big wide treads
are great if you can keep the whole tread on the road, but if the
vertical angle starts to change you need some compliance in the
sidewalls to keep the tread planted.

If the primary use of a car is on city streets, wide treads and short
sidewalls will probably HURT handling, not HELP it. City streets are too
uneven to take advantage of all that rubber. One little bump and you
start to slide. Of course, if appearance is more important than handling...
