Hi SEC people,
I have been removing all the burl wood trim for refurbishing - I had the
center console done and it is magnificent!
But true to all partial restoration projects - it made the rest look.dull.
So off I went to remove the other bits.carefully.
The doors took me a couple of hours with good instructions from members and
archives - thanks present and past listers that made those contributions.
I am now stuck on the two long dash pieces. Even standing on my head as my
SEC is a right hand drive car, there are complications.
Any assist in finding the securing nuts or bolts for these would make my
life considerably happier!
These cars were certainly built for a long life, I am still amazed at the
complexity of every DIY project that I have started - these machines are
unique.
I have 2 spare centre consoles (gear selector surround) to suit an SEC and
an SEL if anyone has interest other wise I will list them on eBay.
These were fully refurbished even to matching the grain and using shellac
and having a final coating of urethane for the "glass" finish.
I bought these locally to practice on but in the end decided to track down a
furniture restorer with some 50 years of experience.
He blew me away when I showed him the pieces.he said: "W126 Benz - you will
be glad with what I can do with this".
I was not disappointed.
I will post some pics of the completed project on a site when the project is
done for your interest.
