[W126 Coupe] 1991 ASR problem

I need a favor.  Are there any listmembers in Houston who have a 1990 or
1991 SEC with ASR?  If so, would you be willing to help with a diagnostic
problem in my car (also a 1991 with ASR)?  Here are the details:  My car is
under the care of John McIntyre at Bertini's European Motors on I-45 North
near The Woodlands.  He has gone through the lengthy and complex diagnostic
procedure required to localize an ASR problem to the Electronic Accelerator
Control Unit (126 545 13 32).  The problem is that this is a ridiculously
expensive part ($2200. wholesale through Rusty, $1300 rebuilt through
Beckmann Technologies) and I want to be certain it's at fault before taking
the plunge.  John suggested I query the list to see if anyone would be
willing to let him install my defective part in their car temporarily as a
final check.  This is the best way to completely eliminate the possibility
of a false negative in the diagnostic procedure.  

 

I realize I am asking a lot.  Of course, all costs and potential liabilities
would be on me, and I would insist on buying you lunch.  John is a highly
trained and respected mechanic, and I can offer my own assurances that your
car would be well taken care of.
