[W126 Coupe] How many hours does a cylinder head gasket change take ?

The number of jobs is almost endless limited only by your bank balance and credit limit.

Most Important: After removing the valve covers DO check the timing chain for stretch against the timing marks and the condition of the timing chain guides. ON SECOND THOUGHT, better yet, while you have the heads off, the extra cost is little more than the parts cost and with the reputation of the 420 engine jumping chains, I'd advise renewing the timing chain, guides and tensioner in any case. If your cam sprockets (for the timing chain) look worn to sharp points (rather than rounded), change them.

Valves? Valve stem seals? Injectors? Injector seals? air ducts? .........

I believe the book labour for head gaskets is 6-8 hours..... can't remember exactly. I'm sure someone on this site has the exact.

Hi,

would anyone know approximately how many hours it would take to change the cylinder head gaskets ?

What other jobs can be done with the head off and roughly how long would they add to the basic gasket replacement ?

thanks very much,

Oisin
