Hi guys,

unfortunately it turns out its the head gasket, the guy didn't want to
do the job either but he was getting on a bit. He put a hose with a
funnel in it onto the radiator cap and let the engine run for a while,
topping it up with water every now and again. after a while bubbles
started appearing and when he revved it more bubbles would surface. Does
this sound like a scientific enough way to determine if its the head
gaskets need replacing ? He seemed knowledgable and was recommended,
didn't charge me either for the 30 mins he worked on it.

Am i right in thinking this jobs needs to be done at least once in a
car's lifetime or not ? just trying to look on the bright side ,

thanks

Oisin

Hi Markus,

thanks for your help, I also noticed a whining noise which
wasn't there before, another forum suggested it may be a water pump
bearing. I'm not sure what units the temp guage is in, can't remember if
it says C or F, either way it was reading at the bottom end of the guage
and was nowhere near the red area, could also have a faulty sensor then
as its not reading 80 which i think is normal, will double check my
guages and see if its C or F,

thanks very much, all the best,

Oisin
