Just thought I would let you know that to bring a car into Canada from anywhere in the world is quite easy. The Feds have a list that is acceptable. You then go to an licensed mechanic get the car e tested and mechanically certified, having all the traceable paperwork, that all factory safety recalls have been performed in the country of original last legal registry and that's it. All imported Mercedes have to go through Mercedes of Canada to verify originality, before release. You guys have to go through a ton of B.S. Has anyone thought of calling MB USA to ask them the process?

Sounds like poor legal advice to me, but at least it was free! YMMV.

Very cool idea! It sounds like a good way to keep the liability away.

The way to avoid losing everything is to put the car in a personal
trust. BTW, you can do this with any asset (houses go into a
land trust) and all you will lose is that item, not the ranch. In many
instances, bankruptcy can wipe out a lawsuit for 'assets' as well.

One MAJOR problem I can see coming up here. You can get easily the car into the U.S. and likely get it registered somewhere without going through a Registered Importer to get the DOT and EPA releases. Here’s your problem – you have a high dollar car with a non-U.S. VIN number.
If you get involved in an accident (anybody’s fault) and their insurance company is smart enough to call DOT to verify the status of your car, you just became the cause of the accident whether you caused it or not (would not have been an accident had your illegal car not been on the road) and your insurance WILL be canceled immediately and retroactively. A friend in the DOT office say’s they get several calls a day on exactly this.
Feel like betting your future and any/all assets you own?
