Sounds like you need a new mechanic.

Subject: [W126 Coupe] temp guage sender / transmitter
Hi everyone,
i recently posted here when my 420SEC started overheating, i had been
advised by a mechanic that it was a blown head gasket.
I've since had it fixed, the real problem turned out to be a blocked
radiator, faulty temp sensor and a hose at the back of the engine which
had become a little loose.
Thankfully its running just fine now. The only thing is that the
mechanic said the guage was reading a little low, 60 instead of 80
degrees.
He said i needed a transmitter / sender, does anyone know what this is
and what it does ?
I was thinking perhaps 'sends', the data from the sensor to the guage
but if the 'sender', i have needs to be replaced then why would my guage
be reading anything at all ?
thanks very much,
Oisin
