Just another suggestion:
If you decide to upgrade your original Becker in this way, you
should definitely have them add an input for an iPod (or any mp3
player). You should also inquire about speaker upgrading.
I agree with those who recommend starting fresh with an entirely
new sound system; but, if you want it to look original, I
understand that, too. But, if you're going that route you ought
to at least get the most out of it.
I completely gutted the ashtray assembly and created a little
drawer, the front of which was unchanged. When closed, it looked
original; when opened, my iPod was resting there.
