I agree, if you plan to keep the original radio which is a Becker model 780
send it to Becker, North America in New Jersey. They are reasonable price
wise. If your radio can be repaired economically, they will also deactivate your
security circuit. This will prevent your unit from becoming inoperative(
three dashes on your LCD display) in the event your radio loses power(12V) while
your alarm system is activated. There is no code for this model radio as with
other Becker units. Unless you know both amplifiers are good, I would also
send them to Becker for testing. These amps. are about the size of a pack of
cigarettes located behind the back seat just to the right and left of each
corner at shoulder height. You must remove the back seat to get them out. Bose
is the manufacturer of the amps. so Becker does not repair these units but
will exchange them for $. There is no other component associated with this
radio in the trunk excepting the electric antenna. I had a new LCD installed
and one amp. replaced for $150.00 out of pocket.
This suggestion only applies, if you want to keep the car as manufactured as
I did. As others have said, this radio/cassette player is old technology and
you may want to at least consider upgrading the head unit.
Please let everyone know what you did to overcome your issue. I see so much
great advice given on this site to people. However, Feed back is sometimes
lacking in regards as to what actually was done to fix the malfunction or
remedy the situation.
Good Luck!
