Hello group. My name is CrystaI am new to the mailing list, but not a new MB owner. I just bought a 1987 560 SEC in July, and I love it. There are some cosmetic things I need to do to it but overall I love this rocket. My first MB is a 1980 300 SD Turbo Diesel, that I love too. I have been through some ups and downs with the Diesel, but found a wonderful technician that taught me how to do my own filter changes, oil changes, and various odds and ends in other places. He was recently diagnosed with cancer, and can now only consult from time to time.

I want to tell you all that this mailing list has been a wonderful tool for me. When I purchased the 560 it did not come with an owner’s manual, and I could tell that the previous owners took pretty decent care of the car. I have to buy a new set of tires (215/65/15), and want to start doing my own service. I took it for an oil change/ flush at NAPA when I first bought it, so now I am going to attempt to keep up regular maintenance myself.

Sat. I took out the air filter and noticed that the smog pump filter has deteriorated, so I will need to locate that as well as purchasing new filters for the oil, fuel, air and power steering fluid, and hydraulic fluid. I have experience changing the fuel filters on my diesel, I am not sure where to find it on the SEC. Please someone point me in the right direction that will be so helpful.

Later on, once I am done with my "tune-up", my new technician is going to change the spark plugs. What is the correct gap for this? I noticed that if I sit and idle to long my puff of white smoke is a little large. I have to find out what adjustments we will have to make to reduce this.

Is there a website similar to what the dieselking has put together? I would love to learn more about this car and its capabilities. I want to install a new radio/ antenna but not sure if I have to go to the dealer for this, since it is linked to the alarm system. Sunday, the blower to climate control may have gone out, but I think it could be the switch. Not sure what check for this.

I know I included a lot in this email, but I thought I better put it down while it was on my mind.

Crystal

Have a wonderful day,,,,,,,,MS.J
