Doug:
Notwithstanding the heat and humidity, count me in for a get-together.
Another option for a location might be something more centrally located...Hermann
Park, Memorial Park, etc. I'm available if you want/need help organizing. We
could also get the word out through the local MBCA newsletter.
Cheers,

Hello Doug,
The vehicle you saw in Houston may have been my '83 MB 380SEC. The exterior
color of my vehicle is a light (saphire) blue to silver color. And I have a
set of aftermarket Lucca staggered 18" wheels installed on my Coupe. My
residence is in far north Houston, but I frequent a restaurant in south Houston.
Happy motoring!
Regards
Jorge Barrera Sr.

Hi Ellen:
I don't know how I got on top of that list, but I will certainly be there if
I eventually know where there is!
Should be fun.
I spoke to Jack O'Rourke yesterday and he definitely wants to come also. You
can add him to your email list , and his email address is
directprint at aol.com and I told him you would probably touch base with him on the subject.
DId you get my inquiry as to whether you would be interested in detailing my
1966 Toronado? I have a suspicion that I fouled up the transmittal somehow.

Hi Jorge, I'm pretty sure the one I saw was smoke silver. I have been
driving my coupe every day for 9 months and the coupe I saw on Monday
was only the 3rd one I've seen on the street in Houston. I'm in outside
sales and on the highways every day. There is a fellow named Tom from
the Woodlands and Willard in south Houston so we know there are at
least 4 of us on the site and that I have communicated with. That's
almost enough for a car show. Are there more of us in the Houston area?.
Everyone, have a great Memorial Day weekend and be safe.
Doug

Hi Guy's,
It's me again with another question. My fuel leak that I though was coming
from rear, turned out to be a washer on one of the fuel pumps but I had
already bought all new hoses and fuel pumps anyway. So now I have 2 extra pumps
that are fine, but I can use them on 1 of my others if needed. I go to p/u car
and iI had left the air cleaner off because mechanic was right down the street,
he spots a drip after you turn car off that looked like it was coming down
from a line going into fuel dist. and you have to floor car to get it started
and there's no drip but running rich. Well today I went out and it almost
started like it should, but had to floor it and it idles @750 a little rough, so
I leaned it out some maybe a small turn on the tool and no more leak but can
see a little moisture where the black hose under intake comes up to the
plastic connector. Should I lean it out more or what do you think is going on ?
Still have to floor to start, unless you do right away and then it s
tarts fine over and over again.
Regards, Clay

Hi,
I am a new member and I must tell you I am delighted
to have found your website. I have had a
White/Parchment 560SEC 1988 since new and it is an
absolute gem. I have taken extremely good care of it
and I am enjoying the information you have made
available to us. Thank you for such a great wealth of
resources. I would like to upload some images of my
car to share with the fellow members, and also ask if
you can guide me on where to find a great sports
exhaust for this car. I am only looking for a great
sound out of this awesome car. The car has 26,000
miles on it and I think it is the most beautiful
Mercedes. Since my family has grown, some times I
think about selling it, but the prices I see listed
are abysmal to consider so I end up giving up on the
idea even if I need a bigger car. Granted those cars
seem abused, not very clean and with a ton of miles on
them. How can I upload the pictures and what size can
you receive? And do you have a place where the
audience is more knowledgeable about these cars in
case I decide to sell.?
Thank you kindly,
Carlos Ossorio

Barry.... I will not be making Indy this year... I've found that trying to
do both Montreal and Indy is a little to much travelling for not enough
punch...enjoy though ! RG

If you are a do-it-yourself type, here's a link to a writeup on how I put a
keyless entry system in my car. It's still working fine after 7 years. I
use it every time I approach my car.

Bruce,
If the front spoiler can be modified to fit the SEC without too much trouble
I'd be interested in it. Does your piece have the AMG logo embossed in it
and does it have the extensions that go up the front wheel wells?

Who and where is your muffler shop? I'll start using them.
I'd love to run B50 or B100 if I could find it. Don't really like the idea
of monkeying around installing extra tanks and heaters and what not so as to
run WVO. Besides, I think the glycerin in the WVO eventually gums up the
injection pump.
Do you know if gen 1 AMG front spoiler for SE/SEL will fit SEC? Bruce Mandel
says he has one.

Interesting, the shop I use all he deals in is high flow..he's also setup
with a full mandrel bend machine which is nice:) You can see some pics of his
work under the 500E on my page.
You should run bio or convert to veg in your diesel..then @ least you'll be
renewable:)
Gen I AMG bits are hard to find.. You might get in touch w/ Axle, he just
bought a kit for an SE to get his rear bumper valence so he may have a Gen I
front available.

I'd save the $350.00 for replacement non-high flow cats and go without since
the car is exempt from emissions. Ironically, as the 300 SD is now my daily
driver, it pollutes more than the SEC does on a monthly basis but with the
added benefit of superior MPG over the V8. It is always a trade-off. How much
are the high flow cats you are installing on your fleet?
Speaking of diesels, where do you get the Rotella diesel motor oil? I'm
using Castrol 15W40 diesel currently. Is the Rotella better than Castrol?
Also, I'm still searching (in vain) for gen 1 AMG body pieces. Keep me in
mind should you come across any of these. I did buy an authentic old school AMG
trunk badge from German Ebay - just need the aforementioned pieces to go
with it!

Glad to hear she's working well! However, as of late I've changed my
philosophy in regards to cats, that being it's worth it IMHO to install two high
flow cats on these cars, reduction of peak HP is minor (3-5) however the
reduction in emissions is not.
All of my cars (my AMG included) are undergoing re-working of the exhaust to
include to high flow cats.. I've also begun to encourage any of my cat-less
customers to do the same.
These cars are far from efficient to begin with thus I think it prudent to
lessen the overall impact as best we can.

Guys,
Finally got around to having the cats cut off and replaced with two sections
of straight 2.25 in. aluminized pipe. So now I only have the two OEM
resonators under the rear seat pans doing the muffling since I did not replace the
old rusted out rear OEM muffler but ran split duals out the back instead. BIG
DIFFERENCE! Acceleration definitely improved - now get that pushed back in
the seat feeling as opposed to a leisurely gathering of speed.
Good sound too. Nice rumbly V8 noise - very muscle carlike - but not too
loud.
Internet research led to a company in California called Spin Tech making
mufflers for race car applications but now making street applications as well.
They make a split case reverse flow muffler (inlet and outlet on same end)
which is the same design as the OEM resonators. (C5 Corvette uses this design as
well). The dimensions are 4"h x 9"w x 13"l which approximates the size of
the resonators. So I'm thinking the next step will be to replace the resonators
with the Spin Tech mufflers. The company claims superior flow rates and
sound to competing performance mufflers (Magnaflow, Borla, etc..) so I assume
superior flow rate and sound over the OEM resonator.
Anyway, its nice to experience these cars as the engineers intended - cat
free!

In regard to coupes in Houston I wonder if it be worth trying to get
together for a Saturday or Sunday afternoon somewhere around Houston?
David Cole says he'll be back in Houston around the first part of
August. That would probably be enough time to find a good spot to meet.
Maybe a picnic at a park, that's easy to get to and has the
accommodations for a pavilion, restrooms etc.
It looks like the folks in NJ are getting together and it appears that
some are traveling some distance to be together. It could be easy for us
in the Houston area. I believe we have identified about 6 cars just by
asking about SEC's in Houston. If there is interest let me know and I'll
see what parks have the accommodations that would allow s to have our
cars near by. I'm involved in the Oldsmobile and Chevy clubs, both use
Bear Creek Park west on I-10 off Eldridge Parkway.
It could be a kick in th pants to get 15 or 20 cars together and meet
other folks who are impressed with and enjoy these fine cars. If anybody
is interested, let us know on the site and if there is a decent number
of interested people, I'll be happy to help organize a one time event.
