Fred:

You say your model badge is "missing"... or was it ever there? Do you know?

In Europe one of the "options" is the "elimination of model designation on rear lid". If your original spec card for the car lists an option "260", it never had the badge. If you don't have the original card, look at the metal plate on the cross-member directly in front of the rad. There is a series of three digit numbers (your car's options). If "260" is there, the badge was never there.

Having no model badge, only the MB star, is (was) a bit of a status thing there.

If your car never had the badge, personally, I'd leave it off. It's a desireable original detail, very European.

Last weekend I bought a 560 SEC, smoke silver with mushroom hide. First registered Feb 1989 (build Nov 1988). Unfortunately it's missing its boot badge... A new one is only £12 from the local stealership, but I need to know the exact location on the boot. Having looked at pictures, it seems that the 'C' (in SEC) is located on a vertical line above the inside edge of the tailamp... is this correct ?Secondly, how many mm is the underscore (the chrome underline, that the letters sit upon) above the top of the chrome boot strip ?I'm looking for precise measurements.

Many thanks,

Fred.
