[W126 Coupe] A/C charge/conversion

Good news:
R290 (propane) is completely compatible with R12 and R12 lubricant.
It's cheap - under $3.00 per pound at your local hardware store
A bernzomatic torch with an R12 hose makes a great installation tool
It is MORE efficient than R12 and if you charge the system, you must stop
with some bubbles in the system (a clear sight glass is an overcharge).
Bad News
EPA won't like you.
Once the R12 is in there, no AC shop will touch it, you are on your own
until it's vacuumed out.
I used Propane in the SEC until I started the Franken Benz conversion and it
was marvelous. The LS6 has a compressor that is supposed to like R134 so
I'll have to change it finally.
Barry - I'm in Fort Wayne, IN until tomorrow and I get to go home to Vegas.
Supposed to be in the low 80's next week.
Later,
Mike R.

Interesting idea, I did notice a few posting on using it. Is using propane
(I see propane/butane mixture as well) safe for the compressor? Its probably
better off than, say, R134a, since from what I've read needs a change in
lubricant.

It has often been suggested that adding propane works well. If you are
concerned about flammability read this first and then decide:
