[W126 Coupe] Rims @ tires for 89 560 sec dilemma

I am using 8 x 18" rims and they are wonderful, even with H&R springs. The
key is not to use "Z" rated rubber on the larger diameter rims as the
sidewalls are too stiff. My "H" rated 245/45/18 Hankooks are great. Decent
sidewall size and non-Z rated tires did NOT deteriorate the ride quality but
did significantly increased the handling.

I wouldn't go any larger than 17" rims. Any larger, 18"19", etc., will
greatly deteriorate the ride quality. If you want to retain as much of the
original feel as possible, you can retain your stock springs and shocks.
Otherwise, if you want the more agressive look and feel, consider H&R
springs and Bilstein shocks. Many SEC/SEL owners go this route. I retained
my stock suspension and upgraded to 8.5x17 ET18 AMG 3 piece wheels. I'm
using 245/45/17 WR tires front and rear so that I can rotate them. Some
people use the 8.5s on the front and use 10x17 ET17 on the rear with
265/40/17 or even 275/35/17.
