[W126 Coupe] Groaning/Creaking front end!?!?!

On my car they replaced the ball joints and that got rid of my creaking. My
mechanic pointed out that the ball joint 'covers' (whatever they are called)
were broken/missing, which causes water to splash the grease out of the
joint. Squirting some oil into the joint should get rid of the noise for a
day or 2 until you can get it replaced.
