As a last gasp you can try upplugging the kick down solenoid @ the back of
the passenger side (single pole wire).
That aside, I'm going to wager pretty heavily that you are in need of a
rebuilt trans (not much of a fan for used).
IMHO, installing a 500E transmission on a 150HP 380 would be a waste of time
and resources as a stock trans @ this point would, under normal conditions,
last for 250+K in that car.
