I will be there Doug! Gonna see if a couple other SEC owners from around here are interested as well. Sounds like we may have a decent turn out.

Good day all, just an update to those interested in the Houston Coupes
Gathering. Willard Treadway and I have selected a date and site that we
hope will work for as many folks as possible. August 25 th., a Saturday,
at Memorial Park in the center of Houston. We have chosen the 25th to
allow members to make plans for work and family and for our planning as
well. For those coming from out of town let us know and we can suggest
hotels in the area.
The specific picnic site has been selected but not reserved at the
moment. I just could not get to he parks dept. to give them the
reservation payment of $75. I did check by phone and the two sites that
are well shaded and allow us parking adjacent to the picnic areas were
available and I hope they are still available this week.
Willard and I believe that we would have a more meaningful experience
if we could offer other events besides just a picnic. The one event that
I have pursued is our involvement in an evening car show. We have been
granted a special one time invitation to be involved in a very nice
street rod and classic "cruise in" that is restricted to cars built
before 1979 regardless of use or make. It is predominantly hot rods and
muscle cars but there are all types of cars and trucks including foreign
cars such as MB, Jags, Healeys, etc. On a good Saturday night there will
be 300 cars on a great night 400 and parking is extremely limited for a
crowd this large so this is a unique opportunity to be allowed to "show"
our cars and there was some reluctance from the organizers because they
have never done a special showing of more contemporary cars but ours are
unique enough to warrant them to consider us. This event usually begins
around 5:30 or so and shuts down at 9:00. It will be about 30 miles, I'm
guessing here, from Memorial park on main roads. We thought a convoy of
coupes to the cruise in and being parked together could be very cool.
We are also considering other events that would be fun and educational
specific to our cars. We welcome any ideas but with those ideas, the
resources would be helpful. An example might be leather upholstery
refinishing with a demo, great idea but we need an expert to conduct the
demo. I have a contact but have not contacted this person to ask if
there is interest in participating with us. Please let us know if this
type of event would be of interest. I'm sure we could do badminton or
croquet if there is interest in these activities.
We also thought that we could provide water and soft drinks so any
travelers would not have to worry about carrying large ice chests. Food
on the other hand could be brought with you and there are fire pits for
cooking hot dogs and hamburgers. Here again if there are any suggestions
for other methods, please let us know. For any expenses laid out prior
to the gathering, we will pass the hat at the picnic to recoup our outlay.
At last loose count I think there were 7 interested from the web site.
That's it for now and we look forward to feed back from you.
