[W126 Coupe] wood trim

I'm a bit confused on the cracking. I have a few as well. Is the 
poly-coating what typicaly cracks or is it much worse and is in fact 
the wood cracking?

I just got a quote for the Shifter plate, AC Panel and Ashtray for
around 360 plus shipping from Madera. Just thought you would like to
know what it would cost. I'm going to try them out as I'm not patient
enough for this work.

Nothing one can do outside of avoiding direct sunlight, & storing in a
climate controlled garage. I would recommend you get a window shade for
anytime you have to park outside.

There's no magic product that will add pliability to polyurethane
coatings that I know of thus as they expand/contract cracks are bound to

appear.

My advise, but new while it's still available and store it away some
place cool in your house for future use.

Finding a re-finisher that can do good work is difficult @ best.

I have used Madera for my 250se Coupe and 300 sel 6.3.They did a great
job and the pricing was pretty fair and they were fast.

I know this won't help those for whom their car is primary  
transportation,
but for those with a couple of extra "fun cars" Hargerty and the  other
Collector Car insurers can sure save you some money. I insure my Healey 
 and
500SEC
for under $500 yr. No mileage limit, just you have to have  
another(insured)
vehicle that you use for work/school and it must be in a locked  garage 
when not

in use. Some have year and or mileage limits, but most should be  able 
to
save some money. Scott

Get a diff from a 450SL/SLC/SE  (W116)
I'll have to check but I think they are a 3.09?? Anyway it is stamped 
on the
outside diff casing.
Look at my other quite recent posts on diffs and all whole the story is 
there.
They are not LS but then neither was your stock diff from a 500.
There is 15 minutes work to change the drive shafts off a 450 diff and 
replace
with the flanges from your old SEC diff.
Just been down this road myself.
Phenomenal difference to the car.

As an aside, if you do a Lot of highway driving you might find the 3.07
from a 450 a bit Busy...granted it will feel Great off the line though!
