Hi Rick, 

This is the thread where I found the rear suspension advice from
"Chris".  It's buried in here about 1/3 the way in.  Looks like you may
need to register to find out his email/details.

I think you're right to repair rather than replace, although if the
hydraulic rams ever went bad, replacing would be a lot cheaper.

    Thanks to Mike Taylor for posting the info from 'Chris' from another
posting.  It helps clear things up a lot for me on the rear suspension. 
  I would rather repair than replace the rear suspension system.  If you
could, I would appreciate your finding the'Chris' posting so that I may
communicate with him further, concerning the suspension.
   Many thanks to all who supplied info on my request for help. I really
appreciate this 'ready pool' of affection ados to help with my 560SEC. 
The car is wonderful - when operating properly.
