Sorry to hop in and steal your thunder!
But yes, you can go Pretty far w/ the modulator on a worn out transmission. We have had instances where we needed to put 3+ turns to get remotely correct shifting.

I went under and found it and the T comes right out of the red plastic housing it's in , but after turning it 1 detent nothing happens. I was able to just take the T out and move it 1 click. Is that all that has to be done? or do I use the little T wrench to turn it. Help?

Hi Bob:
Just follow Jonathan's advise if you are experiencing flaring between gears. I've been able to make subtle adjustments with just a few clicks CW and not being a pro wrench, I've always done that adjustment 1 click at a time until I got it right. CW decreases the flare, CCW will increase the flare. Jonathan being a pro has a lot more experience with how far you can turn that key than I.
All of this presumes that you are getting the right shift points, if not then the Bowden cable is what you should be adjusting.
Take care,
Dick
