IIRC '85 gen 1 and your '90 gen 2 car don't share all body parts. The most obvious would be the lower cladding, and headlights. But I thought I read somewhere that the front fenders are different with the gen 2 being flared a little more. Not sure if this holds true for the rear as well. Can you find out what this person who has the parts car would want for the grill if the chrome on it is OK?

I drive a '90 560 SEC daily and I have been looking for a donor car in
the event of an accident. I have found (but have not seen, will see next
week) a 1985 500 SEC that has some rear body damage so the deck lid may
not be of value but I believe that the engine, interior, front fenders,
hood, grill, front bumper, doors, glass, windshields front and rear are
good. The question is; are /*_body parts_*/ I may need from the '85 500
compatible and will fit with no modification on my '90 560. The guy
wants very little for the car and considering I've seen hoods for almost
$1000 I believe this is a pretty good insurance policy to have as a
back up parts donor if the parts are compatible.
Lastly, are any or all '85s European with the lateral supports in the
doors and other body mods to meet U.S. standards? Any comments would be
appreciated. Thanks again.
