Tad;
You likely can fix the door striker yourself. All you need is a 5mm allan key to undo the 4 screws holding the striker on. They screw into little upper and lower threaded plates (2 screws each) that are loose inside the door pillars to allow for adjustment, but are captive there and can't fall anywhere.
The strikers are all the same so you can, if you wish, get a used one from any year SE, SD, SEC, SEL, SDL.... right side (left side is opposite hand)....... back door striker from a sedan is fine and sometimes is in better condition (except when the previous owner had a gang of brats). When re-installing the "new" one, line it up exactly where the old one was. You'll be able to see that location on the paint easily.

Tad; I have never seen a door striker fail. But I imagine they do get brittle over time, particularly in hotter climates. Obviously one would expect the drivers door striker to fail first if it was strictly usage. I don't imagine there are a lot of SEC's in the scrapyards, but the door strikers are likely the same through all models, all years. Hope you can find a good used one. Does your SEC really have PINK leather seats? That would be an.... uh, unusual option. -Bellamy

Looking up into the striker from under it, the plastic part is completely shattered. The drivers side door is intact. Looking up the part online runs around $100. I will contact my mechanic tomorrow, since he has a junk yard that might have the striker I am looking for. Do these fail very often, or was this caused by old age/slamming of the door? Thanks for everybody's help.

Tad; >From the photos it looks as though the brass sleeve that accepts the cone shaped plunger on the door is not there. How does this part compare to your other door? Do they look the same? The one in the photo sure looks damaged. If you need to replace that, check the part number (with the MB dealer parts department, for example). Ask for the part number for your SEC and for a sedan (SE or SEL the same year). I believe that the parts are the same and a used one could be readily available from a sedan. -Bellamy
