Further to my exploits racing a 500SEC.(Euro)
Since the first race I have now had the suspension professionally lowered by the local Bilstein agents.
Fitted stiffer & shorter springs plus fitted the adjustable Bilstein shocks as per the AMG kit for the W126.
Ditched the self levelling suspension at the same time.
The car now feels like a go-cart compared with before. (Goodbye the nice luxurious Merc ride..)
However, the front brakes tend to lock too easily.
(but..this was already the case prior to the lowering of the suspension)
As back ground to what I have already done previously...
I ditched the standard Merc 'Tektar' front brake pads as they were hopeless when they got hot. All the resin bled out...
leaving a pad surface which you could scrape out with little effort since the resin had largely boiled out.
So I fitted Ferodo Ceramic 'Platinum' pads which is the best pads I can get locally.
I replaced the rear pads with standard Merc pads
I now have brakes that don't fade appreciably over race distance (what a change!) however the front brakes grab rather violently and not progressive at all. - I'm either not braking significantly or I'm locking the front brakes.
Not much in between. (Yes - I have changed the brake fluid and bled the brakes religiously)
My question to the wise men out there.
Do I now play around with brake balance & get more braking to the rear?
How does one adjust the brake bias?
Should I get rid of the o.e. Merc rear pads as well?
All suggestions are eagerly welcome.
Thanks guys.
