Ric,
Start with this as it is the most likely and the most cause for concern
if you are on the road right now.
Stop the car. Go look at the battery resting voltage at the batt
terminals using a dc volt meter. Start the car, kick on the hvac blower
and see if the voltage goes up (alt probably okay but may be weak or
failing). If you should see an uptick in voltage on your meter
indicating the alternator can produce a charge. If the voltage remains
the same as when at rest or goes down you are likely running on battery,
the alternator is dead and the reserve of the battery determines how
many minutes you have left until the engine just quits.
Sounds like the familiar alternator failure where your are drawing off
the battery and the output from the alternator is so weak you are slowly
loosing the battery reserve.
Hopefully you are at home with the SEC and not on the road.
