Hi Jonathan,

Good points you make - yes, I scratch my head too when I look at the
exhaust. You mention you have some after market cams - do you have the
source/specs on them - I haven't seen anything for the 560. Thanks.

more bottom end torque (where you do most of your driving) than you gain

system design is actually a very complex and interesting. You can gain
or loose 10-20% based on the design and free-flow is not always a
positive. Even when it is, geometry (tube diameters/lengths, even firing
order greatly influences the output."
I have to comment on my experience with headers/cast tri y's..the two
cars I know that are header equipped not only make more up top but are
making more power sooner.
The US exhaust system is one of the worst designs ever to make it on a
production car. Just allowing this car to breathe properly had netted
me 20 RWHP and 12 ft/lbs. I'll have another car running AMG spec
headers in the next few months and will of course post my results here.

"Typically you'd only go to headers if you upgraded to high flow cams
and heads and you are doing all your driving above 4K (like on a track).
Most people I know don't run their car on a track - otherwise it's a
waste. That may be why nothing much is happening below 4K."
I've been running a hot cam in one of my cars and have to say the top
end rush is addictive.. The only way I really notice a loss of low end
is by jumping back and forth from a stock 560 and back into my built
car. She still pulls well down low, but instead of getting sluggish
over 4K everything takes on a whole new urgency. Makes me smile every
day, many times a day;-)
