Clay,
 
Are you saying that you have no problems now?  And you are now concerned that there may have been a short somewhere?  
 
Have you left the battery connected now, and has it retained the charge OK?
 
The fuel pump does not have power with the ignition "off", so that is not likely the problem.  If the problem was a short you would expect a fuse to blow and then there would be no further power draw, right?
 
So if the battery was draining before, something that is powered always was "on".  Many things are powered without the ignition "on"......... the alarm system, radio, entrance lights, headlamps, horn etc etc.  (Just ask Vance)  If it is "fixed" now, I'd just keep a watch for a repeat.  If I am understanding you correctly, you can't really successfully troubleshoot the problem if it is fixed now.

Well, Guys 
I just got feed up and left car sit for a few days waiting to hear from someone about any ideas. Just went and put a tester on battery and there is something going on becuase I put tester to battery neg. and it lite up, which would mean a power draw or short I assume. so for the hell of it I put gound cable on tried the car and it started instantly, idled perfect and took for ride to see how it ran. Car blew out a little light black smoke at first, but ran like it should and fast thru all the gears. Came back and put in garage and tried staring again and perfect. Now the question is what could cause short ? I pulled covers off fuel pumps and didn't see any thing there but didn't take cover off. Any ideas more than welcome. I do remenber when I connected the new battery I put the ground on first and then the positive OOPS. I did hesr a couple of clicks but checked all fuses and they were ok.
PLEASE RESPOND GUYS.
