Maybe, maybe not. Was the tester measuring current or voltage?  Does it 
go FROM one battery post TO the other (parallel connection), or do you 
take one cable loose and insert the tester IN-LINE (series connection)?

If parallel, where were BOTH leads?  If series, which cable did you 
interrupt to insert the tester? Is the tester just a 12 volt lamp?
