Jack, I really didn't have an opinion on this 'til I read Satish's

So, now I have a slightly different answer...assuming you prefer your  
car to your neighbor's, how much nicer could you make it with $5,000  
in improvements?  I would guess that there's not a whole lot of  
actual difference between the mileage remaining on the two cars.

So, it might make more sense to cherry-out your ride and keep it.
